About the Sustainable Teacher Resource Bank™ Support Materials

The Ideal Student Initiative® is dedicated to educating teachers and students about the challenges of many sustainable issues that affect our planet, and proactive solutions to such challenges. Two different formats are presented for Elementary and Middle/High school.

The Elementary program is in the process of being written. Grade appropriate activities will revolve around Joules Watts and her cases to make our planet more sustainable. Each case involves various areas of sustainability and will relate to specific standards and benchmarks.

At the Middle and High School levels, the online support materials are presented in module format and are purposely designed for the flexible use of teachers depending upon the needs of their students and their lesson plans.  They may be used independently to support student readiness or interest, to connect cross-curricular interdisciplinary units, or to enhance individual classroom objectives.

These modules vary in length and the depth to which topic is addressed. They  introduce the topic, promote class discussions and inspire further research by students. The Ideal Student Initiative® will continue to add to the bank of modules over time, to encompass various topics of sustainability as related to environmental and socially responsible issues. Also included is a module planning tool that describes each module to assist in teacher planning.

As schools aspire to graduate students who will become informed and productive citizens of the 21st century, teachers are working to design lessons that are rigorous and relevant to the lives of their students. It is our hope that these materials will provide a springboard to discussions and projects that engage students in the exploration of the kind of real-world, unpredictable problems that they must be prepared to encounter in their future.
